TEAM
Environmental & special projects
The Environmental and Special Projects team is dedicated to the transformation of gas networks for hydrogen transport, the modeling of complex energy systems, the preparation of feasibility studies and potential analyses.
We work together with gas network operators to prepare their gas networks and plants for the hydrogen transition. The projects can range from high-level analysis to specific conversion projects for individual pipeline sections. Our expertise is grounded in the H₂ compendia, which forms the basis of the HydrogenREADY Database (verifHy). Together with the DVGW, we have created verifHy, a comprehensive database on the hydrogen suitability of gas networks, products, components and materials. Manufacturers and network operators can access reliable H2 readiness information with just one click.
As part of the modeling of energy systems and value chains, we prepare comprehensive techno-economic and ecological analyses. The analyses provide a model-based foundation for decision-making on individual issues. For example, we document relevant material and energy flows, compare system configurations and operating modes, and calculate the investment and operating costs of new assets. In this context, we determine specific system properties such as minima and maxima and key performance indicators. We optimize target values considering individual or multiple boundary conditions, highlight sensitivity parameters and derive actionable recommendations. For these modeling methods, we use our own models and constantly growing toolboxes to create tailor-made solutions.
We offer the following services:
- verifHy: Quality gate and maintenance of the contents of the extensive database on the hydrogen readiness of gas networks, gas systems, components and materials for manufacturers and network operators
- Support with the inventory of assets in gas networks and plants and plausibility checks of the collected data
- Assessment of the hydrogen suitability of assets and formulation of recommendations for action (also in cooperation with an expert, depending on requirements)
- Feasibility studies and potential analyses (e.g. for the transformation of gas grids for hydrogen and carbon dioxide or the determination of location-based renewable energies potentials)
