Heating with wood – but the right way!

We are looking for you as a test person for test and training days!

The research project “Creation of training material for correct heating with wood” aims to develop training material for correct heating with wood. This involves carrying out test and training days with the help of six test subjects. In addition to theoretical instruction, a particular focus is placed on practical application. During the test burns, emissions such as dust mass, particle count, PAH, CO, NOX and OGC concentrations are measured over the entire burn. The results of these measurements are incorporated into the scientific evaluation of the project.

Heating your fireplace properly: saving emissions and costs – ZDFheute

The leaves are falling, the desire for a fire is increasing. Millions of stoves are now being used regularly. If you know a few rules, you will need less wood and reduce exhaust fumes.

In many households, it is once again spreading cozy warmth: the fireplace or wood-burning stove. But with over eight million fireplaces in regular use, it is also important to heat them correctly. This can significantly reduce harmful emissions and also save money – by using less firewood.

Results of the UBA project “Stove driving license”

In cooperation with the Federal Environment Agency (UBA), the Ofenakademie held an online presentation on the topic of “Reducing pollutant emissions from hand-fed single-room fireplaces”. Rico Eßbach from DBI – Gastechnologisches Institut gGmbH gave a presentation on the results of the UBA project “Stove driving license”. You can find it in this video. The main focus here is on how user behavior affects pollutant emissions from wood-burning stoves. Be curious!

Trial and training days

Procedure

Day 1 – Pre-measurement

Day 2 – Training
All participants receive training on the correct way to heat with wood.

Day 3 – Post-measurement
Each participant heats an available stove according to the “newly” trained procedure. (Laying the logs, lighting the logs and re-laying the logs three times)
